Have you ever needed to measure sound level at your place of work? Audio engineers are familiar with this idea. You can always get a sound level meter to help you out. But those can be a bit expensive. SoundMeter for iPhone & iPad is a handy application that uses the built-in microphone on your device to measure the sound level around you.

SoundMeter measures time-weighted sound level. It uses Flat A or C frequency weighting to get the job done. You can keep track of peak and maximum sound levels too. Automatic calibration is supported. The app also works with a standard handset microphone. Peak sound levels of up to 130 db can be measured with this.

SoundMeter is a nice little tool to use to measure sound levels in your surroundings. You may have to play with its settings a bit to get the best result. But the app does have potential.
