ProPrompter

People do make fun of teleprompter these days, but they are used by executives and business professionals everyday for presentations and in many special events. You can always purchase or use some piece of hardware/software to address the need for a teleprompter during your presentations, but why do that when you can use ProPrompter. It’s a powerful application that transforms your iPad into a professional, scrolling teleprompter. If you don’t feel comfortable with your presentations or have just gotten used to teleprompters, ProPrompter can help.

Proprompter gives you a lot of control when it comes to your scripts. It lets you change background colors, fonts, your font size, scrolling speed, and many other factors, giving you the opportunity to prepare your script the best way possible. I also like the fact that you can use one Apple product to control the other through WiFi or Bluetooth.

Whether you are preparing yourself for a major speed, doing commercials, or just want to make sure your podcast goes according to your script, you want to have an app that lets you add your scripts easily. You can do that easily with ProPrompter Producer. Scripts can be loaded using e-mail too. It does help that ProPrompter has an easy-to-use interface.

ProPromoter may not be useful to everyone but it does address a very real need for a lot of people. If you are planning to give a speech or do anything script-based, ProPrompter is a nice pick up.

Lifelike Alarm Clock and Weather

Apple has put all kinds of pressure on many companies across multiple industries with iPad and iPhone. You can use these devices to do almost anything. That includes using them as your personal alarm clock and weather center. Lifelike Alarm Clock  and Weather is an intuitive application that does just that. It wakes you up and gives you the latest weather forecasts in your area to keep you prepared for your day/night ahead.

Lifelike Alarm Clock and Weather is developed for those who are tired of carrying around physical clocks with them on the go. It is a decent alarm clock and weather app that replaces multiple gadgets and saves you money too. It has 12 built-in alarms to wake you up from your deepest sleeps. The graphics and designs used in this app are top notch too. Let’s not forget about the night mode, which is great if light disturbs you or your partner.

Your alarm clock would not be complete without a weather center. This app’s weather center provides you with up to 5-day weather forecast for your location (temperatures in F or C). The animated depictions of current weather in your area are a nice touch.

Lifelike Alarm Clock and Weather has one of the best interfaces we have seen in clock apps. It does what it promises and saves you from the trouble of buying a physical clock. It can be great as a backup clock too. It’s worth a look.

Movies Now HD

The iPad is more than just a shiny tablet. You can use it to manage every aspect of your life. That includes reserving your tickets to your favorite movies ahead of time. Movies Now HD is an exciting application that lets you find out about the latest movies in theaters and get your tickets without having to wait in a queue.

Movies Now HD has a very attractive interface. It shows you the posters of the latest movies, which you can click on to find out more information about a specific movie. It also gives you access to a library of trailers to help you decide which movies you want to buy.

Looking at the ratings and information of movies should help you find the ones that are worth your time. When you are ready to order, you connect to movietickets.com to make your purchase. It supports over 11,000 screens, so you should be able to find a movie to watch near you.

It’s nice to have an app that shows you cinemas close to your place and enables you to add new theaters to your list. Movies Now HD gives you all the tools you need to find a decent movie to watch where you want to watch it. It’d be nice if the developers add some more social aspects to this app, but it’s a pretty handy app regardless.

12-in-1 | APPulous

We have all heard it before: there is an app for everything. But picking up paid apps to all kinds of things can get a bit expensive. That’s why all-in-1 apps for iPad are so popular. They save their users money and offer more than just one or two benefits. 12-in-1 | APPulous is one of those apps. It can save you a few bucks and add some useful features to your iPad.

APPulous is the ultimate utility application. It offers 12 very handy features that you can take advantage of on a daily basis. It can turn your iPad into an alarm clock, a to-do list manager, a translator, and a calculator. But that’s not all. There is plenty more where that came from. Here are just a few things you can do with this app:

  • Find out about the weather conditions in your area
  • Use your iPad as a calculator or a converter
  • Take notes and voice memos on your iPad
  • Keep on top of your system information
  • Use your iPad as a dictionary, a thesaurus, and a translator

The interface is quite attractive and easy to figure out. I like the fact that you can password protect notes and voice memos. Being able to manage unlimited tasks is a plus.

The translator is a nice feature to have as well. It covers 50 languages. It goes hand in hand with dictionary & thesaurus functionality to solve all your language problems.

To sum things up, APPulous is one of the most underrated iPad applications around. It costs way low for what it offers and is very handy. I did have a few issues with the calculator but overall this is a very solid app.

Bento for iPad

Everybody wants to be more productive these days. There are only 24 hours in each day and cutting sleep is not going to work out great in the long run. Becoming more organized is one way to do it. Bento for iPad is just the app for that. It’s a database application that enables you to keep track of your contacts, projects, events, and other daily activities. Lets you stay 0n top of things that are important to you and/or your business.

Bento has a decent interface. It comes with 25 database templates to help you keep track of everything under the sun. Adding information and editing your entries is pretty easy as well. Here are some of the things you can do with Bento:

  • Manage your contacts
  • Keep track of your customers
  • Stay on top of upcoming events
  • Handle your projects
  • Keep up with your to-do lists
  • Keep track of your vehicle maintenance information
  • Stay on the right track with your diet and exercise

Bento is pretty flexible too. It works in both landscape and portrait modes. You can even browse in Safari without leaving the app.

I love the fact that you can sync this app with Bento 3 for Mac. The templates are pretty nice too. More flexibility would be nice, but Bento for iPad is a nice pick up for those of you who have Bento for Mac.

Bills for iPad

Every business and individual needs to have a budget and stick to it in order to stay out of financial trouble. Businesses have a lot of other things to keep track of (including due payments, loan information, and so on). That does not mean individuals can take it easy when it comes to their financial affairs. Having a tool to manage bills can be a life saver for a lot of folks. That’s what Bills for iPad is all about.

Bills for iPad enables you to keep track of your expenses and bills and stay out of any trouble. It lets you stay on track with your budget and check off every payment that you make. It has a very nice interface and a big calendar that you can use to mark down your due dates. The app uses different boxes to help you differentiate between different types of entries.

There are plenty of people who keep spending until they figure out they are in trouble. That’s pretty tough to do if you use this app to track your payments and cash outflow. Export to HTML and CSV is supported too, which is essential.

The app is very well designed and quite fast. It does have a pin feature for privacy and does make it easier to manage all kinds of expenses and bills. Small business owners and busy individuals can get a lot of value out of this app.

Pulse News Reader

Your iPad is not only a great e-book reader, it can help you keep up with the latest news too. Of course, you are going to need a flexible news reader app that makes it easy to keep up with the news. Pulse News Reader is an innovative news reader for iPad that helps you keep up with your articles more effectively.

Pulse News Reader is not your everyday news reader. It uses visuals to help you better keep up with the news on your iPad. It does have a magazine-like look and feel to it. You can go through the text-summary of each article or see the whole article by tapping on it. I love the fact that you can open an article and have your other stories in front of you at the same time.

The smart search feature is quite handy too. If you don’t want to deal with RSS feeds, you can just enter your keywords and let the app grab the appropriate feed for you. The ability to share articles via Facebook, Twitter, or E-mail is nice to have as well.

We did have some issues when using this app. The app did crash on us a few times. It’d be nice to have the ability to better organize feeds and manage an unlimited number of feeds more effectively. Being able to work with online news readers would be nice too. Pulse News Reader does have a lot of potential though. Worth a look if you are shopping around for a news reader.

Ace Tennis 2010

In the past few months, there has been a lot of tennis on TV. Wimbledon, Roland Garros, and other big tennis events are fun to follow. Playing tennis on your iPad is fun too. Ace Tennis 2010 is an attractive and addictive tennis app for iPad that can satisfy your tennis cravings at all times. It is quite top notch in the design department.

Ace Tennis has been around for quite some time. Ace Tennis 2010 takes advantage of what your iPad has to offer to bring you an even more addictive experience. The graphics are quite superb and the game play is very intuitive and fun. The large screen does make it much more fun to play virtual tennis.

Ace Tennis 2010 lets you play on 3 different surfaces. You can play against computer or others from around the world. The controls are easy to get a handle on too. Just tap to move around and tilt to change the direction of your ball.

Overall, if you are a fan of tennis or just want to play a high quality sport game on your iPad, Ace Tennis is a nice app to pick up. Great game play and graphics. Online play can be improved, but the app has a lot of going for it.

GoDocs for iPad

Google Docs is one of the best online solutions to manage documents and keep track of your spreadsheets and presentations. While you can use Google Docs’ official page on your iPad, it’d be nice to have an app that provides you with a more refined interface. GoDocs for iPad is such an app. It’s a very intuitive Google Docs viewer for iPad that lets you manage multiple accounts and download your files to your iPad. You can even manipulate your files and synchronize changes with your account.

GoDocs enables you to interact with and get your information from your Google Docs account more quickly. You can work with PDF and all other file types right on your iPad. You can download your documents to your iPad without having to go through yet another app. Renaming and emailing your documents is pretty straight forward too.

As mentioned earlier, this app can sync your documents with your Google Docs accounts. So you won’t have to deal with different versions of your documents. The app even lets you use multiple Google Docs account simultaneously. Having the ability to manage document versions easily is useful too.

We did have a few issues opening some of our documents. The app worked perfectly with presentation files, but it did fail to open 2 of our document files. The good news is you can always use other apps to open files that you have downloaded using the “Open In” feature. It would also be nice if one could remove a file online and have the app delete it from iPad.

If you are a heavy Google Docs user and want to manage your accounts more conveniently on your iPad, GoDocs for iPad is a must have. It has a very nice interface and is quit fast. It does a couple of minor issues. Overall, it does deliver what it promises.

Karajan Pro

There are plenty of music applications available for iPad. Whether you are interested in playing instruments on your tablet or just want to take your game to the next level, there is an app available for you in iTunes. Karajan Pro is one of those apps. It’s an ear training application for iPad that teaches you how to take your music to the next level and become a better artist.

When you start in this field, you may have some difficulty figuring out and recognizing chords, scales, pitches, and everything in between. With the help of this app, you could learn how to recognize those better. It has 4 built-in instruments and different modes to get the job done. Mostly, it is a useful testing app.

I was very impressed with this app’s interface. You don’t have to be a music genius to get started with it. It may be more of a testing than learning apps, but it does come handy for those interested in the art of music.

HandiCraft for iPad

So you want to learn how to sew like a pro? Your iPad can teach you how to do just that as long as you pick the right app. HandiCraft for iPad is one of few apps that will provide you with step by step instructions on how to achieve certain patterns. Who needs a book when you can get a dynamic guide on iPad?

Handicraft covers quilting, knitting, crochet, and embroidery on your iPad. It provides you with enough illustrations and instructions to get started. The video lessons are a plus too. Of course, it does help that you don’t need to be connected to the Internet to take advantage of this information.

If there is a down-side to this app, you could argue that it’s the size of it. It can take up to 500 MB of memory on your device, so if you do not have too much memory left on your device, you may want to unload some of your other apps. Those of you who have a mid to top of the line iPad or don’t have too many apps should have no problem with this app.

To sum it all up, this is a very decent guide for beginner or advanced crafters.

Todo for iPad

The iPhone is a great device for individuals and business professionals. In some ways, the iPad has even more to offer to the pros. The larger screen makes it much easier to manage tasks and organize things on an iPad. Of course, you are going to need a decent iPad app if you are to manage your tasks properly. Todo for iPad is such an application. It’s written to enable its users to plan ahead and manage their tasks more effectively.

Todo for iPad turns your iPad into a virtual organizer which you can use to plan ahead and manage your daily tasks. The app can be synchronized with some of the most popular task management solutions on the market (Outlook, iCal, Toodledo). You can also set up alerts in order to avoid missing your deadlines.

You can manage projects and keep track of your checklists using this app. Setting up recurring tasks is possible as is selecting multiple tasks at once. The interface is quite fun to use and makes life very easy. You won’t have to read a 200 page manual to get started with this app.

What I really like about this app is its ability to sync with the above mentioned products. The last thing you want is managing separate task lists across different services without having the ability to pull them all together. Overall, a solid choice for those of you looking for a task manager for iPad.

Stargazer

A few weeks ago, we had a chance to review SkyVoyager by Carina Software. It’s one of the most impressive astronomy applications for iPad. The trouble is it can be a bit of an overkill if you are too new to the field of astronomy. That’s where Stargazer comes in. It’s an astronomy app for beginners that lets you explore the skies on your iPad and get yourself familiar with more objects.

Stargazer may not have as many objects as SkyVoyager, but it’s pretty handy. 120K stars and 220 clusters, galaxies, and nebulae are covered in this app. The app helps you learn more information about objects you see on your screen and has additional information on asteroids, comets, and other objects.

Just like SkyVoyager, you can easily customize what you want to be shown on your screen. That includes changing the look and feel of this app. While the app performs the best on an iPhone 3GS, it works just fine on an iPad too.

The interface is very easy to get used to and the app is very informative. This is a great learning and exploring tool for astronomy fans.

Blocks

Block puzzles have been around for ever. Moving off blocks to open the way for a specific one sounds easy on the paper, but it can kill time like no other game. Blocks for iPad brings this puzzle to your tablet. The game is easy to pick up. You don’t have to read a large manual to get the app to work nor would you need too many controls to master this game. Just get the orange block off the board if you can.

As you can see in the above screen-shot, the game gives you options when it comes to puzzles and difficulty levels. You have 4 difficulty levels to choose from as well as 200 puzzles to tackle. The design is pretty clean and the game is as responsive as one would want it to be.

The first few levels are going to be easy. But things get more complicated from thereon. Once you finish a level, the very next level becomes unlocked. So you always have some incentive to finish those super hard puzzles.

Overall, a pretty solid iPad app if you are into these types of games.

The Muscle System Pro

iPad is a great device to play games on and get entertained with. But it’s also capable of helping you learn new things and educate yourself on topics you are interested in knowing more about. The Muscle System Pro is a powerful iPad application that is designed for the students of anatomy or anyone involved in the field of human biology.

I have never been a fan of human anatomy. It was my least favorite course in college. But I never had access to a fun app like The Muscle System Pro. It’s quite interactive and lets you find out more information about every region of human body on iPad. Unlike your textbook, you can zoom in and out and interact with this app. It has over 350 3D muscle images and 1000 labels. It provides you with a comprehensive set of information on human muscle, so you’ll know your stuff after using this app for a while.

The app not only helps you master this topic, it also gives you the ability to quiz yourself. I like the index feature as it makes it easy to go to a specific muscle easily. The graphics are impressive and the information is superb if you are into it.

Ultimately, The Muscle System Pro is a wonderful application for medical students and professionals that help them look up the information they are looking for (about human muscle system) fast. It’s interactive and quite fun.

Flight Control HD

Meet Flight Control: one of the most addictive games available for iPad. Flight Control HD is all about managing your air traffic without having any collision. Sounds easy on the paper, but it can be a whole lot of fun and pretty challenging at the same time.

The game comes with 8 maps to keep you entertained for longer. The game play is quite simple and pretty intuitive. The graphics looked decent on iPhone, but they look awesome on iPad. If you are a newbie to these types of games, it may take you a bit to get used to it. Advanced players can use the fast forward feature to go through the game faster.

What I love about this game is the fact that it supports multiple modes of play. Not only you can have a lot of fun in single player mode, this app supports gaming over WiFi and Bluetooth. You can even share landing duties with a friend on your iPad (think of it as tag team mode).

I would like to see more add-ons included with the iPad version. It could be a bit affordable too. Nevertheless, Flight Control HD does have a lot to get you started.

Mars HD

The iPad is a great tool for those interested in the science of astronomy. Whether you are interested in exploring the stars or just want to find out more information about our own solar system, iPad astronomy apps have you covered. Mars HD is cool astronomy application that lets you explore the red planet to your heart’s desire. It provides you with a virtual tour of the planet and gets you familiar with some of the most intriguing aspects of this amazing object.

There has been a lot of talk about NASA going to Mars in the future (or not going). Regardless, the red planet is still one of the most intriguing planets in our solar system. Mars HD let you explore the planet in a very high quality. It has a high resolution map and guided tour functionality to help you find out more about different parts of the planet. It has 4 vision options that give you more ways to explore your virtual Mars.

If you are not into Guided Tour, you can always go through the 1500 surface features that are covered in this app. The quality of some of the images in this app are just breath-taking. The information provided is very powerful.

I like the fact that you can change the vision, date, and local time in this app. The search feature is a plus too as long as you know what you are searching for.

Mars is a special place in our solar system. While many of us won’t get to see Mars in person, you can use apps such as Mars HD to learn as much as you can about this object. The app does take a bit of space and take a bit to download but with the quality of material you are going, that is to be expected. A must have for all Mars fans.

Backgammon NJ HD

Board games are quite a lot of fun to play with others. They are even better on iPad if you pick up the right application. Backgammon is one of the most popular board games around. While it involves some luck, it does require skills too. Of course, you would not realize that if you play against an opponent that does not show you how it’s done. Backgammon NJ HD is a powerful backgammon app for iPad that not only has the looks but is challenging as well.

Backgammon NJ HD is a complete backgammon game for iPad that is designed to challenge players and help them take their game to the next level. The AI used in this app does not make silly mistakes. Especially, if you are playing those harder levels. It’s neural network-based AI is capable of crushing you, but you can make it more gentle by adjusting its level of play (easy, medium, hard, or expert).

The level of play is not the only thing you can adjust in this game. You can change your board design and checker colors too. The design is one of the best we have seen for a backgammon application. The length of your matches can be customized to (up to 15 points).

Some users may want to go beyond playing the computer and test themselves against their friends or other players. 2-player mode is supported in this application. The fun part is, one can use this app not only to kill time but also to learn new strategies and tricks.

We would not be doing this app justice without addressing some of the accusations that a couple of users have made about it. Considering that you have the option to view the next 100 rolls at any time, it’s hard to put any weight on these complaints. The game’s AI is so good that it does not need to cheat to beat you.

Overall, Backgammon NJ HD is one of the most good looking and strongest Backgammon apps around. If you are a beginner, there is a lot you can learn from this app. More advanced players won’t find this app easy to beat. A must have for every backgammon fan.

Blackboard Presenter

I don’t know about you, but I am a big fan of presenting using a board. It doesn’t matter if it’s a blackboard or whiteboard. With Blackboard Presenter, you don’t have to worry about the type of board as you get to present from your iPad. Best of all, you don’t have to deal with the hassles of working a real board.

The app pretty straight forward to use. It sends video signals through VGA. If you have your device hooked up to a projector, you can use Blackboard Presenter to present your work to your audience. The add supports color, erase function, and those essential features one would need to present on an iPad effectively.

We did have a few issues trying to hook up this app. It’ll also be nice if more sophisticated functions are supported in this app. It has a lot of potential. Very interesting app for teachers.

iPeriod

The iPad can be used as a tool to manage every aspect of your daily life. That includes women too. In fact, getting the right apps can help women keep track of their period cycles right on their iPad and  predict what’s coming in the future. iPeriod is one of those apps. It helps women track their moods, predict ovulation and fertility, and keep track of previous period dates right on their iPad.

If you are trying to become pregnant or just want to keep track of your cycles, iPeriod has you covered. It has a very easy to use interface that makes keeping track of things very easy. It lets you record your symptoms and moods (43 to choose from at this point). It even alerts you (or emails you) when your period is expected.

iPeriod can predict your future period dates as well as ovulation and fertility. The note feature is pretty handy too, giving you the opportunity to record additional information per period cycle. You can even graph your data or export it to share with your doctor.

iPeriod is pretty easy to use and has a very intuitive interface. It looked good on iPhone, but it looks better on an iPad. Great health app and period organizer for women.
