The Night Sky takes the guesswork out of the process and shows you what you are looking at in the sky. All you have to do is hold your iPad up to the sky and let the app figure out what their names are. The app will do its job regardless of the weather conditions in your area. Not everything in the sky is a planet or star. The Night Sky is more than capable of identifying satellites too.

The app uses the data from the GPS on your device and its compass to do the job. Its built-in map of the sky and stars let it determine what you are looking at. As long as you are not having magnetic interference in your area, you should be able to use this tool to identify stars and planets at night. Picking up this app beats having to pay $100 or more for a physical gadget to do the very same job.
