Backgammon NJ HD

Board games are quite a lot of fun to play with others. They are even better on iPad if you pick up the right application. Backgammon is one of the most popular board games around. While it involves some luck, it does require skills too. Of course, you would not realize that if you play against an opponent that does not show you how it’s done. Backgammon NJ HD is a powerful backgammon app for iPad that not only has the looks but is challenging as well.

Backgammon NJ HD is a complete backgammon game for iPad that is designed to challenge players and help them take their game to the next level. The AI used in this app does not make silly mistakes. Especially, if you are playing those harder levels. It’s neural network-based AI is capable of crushing you, but you can make it more gentle by adjusting its level of play (easy, medium, hard, or expert).

The level of play is not the only thing you can adjust in this game. You can change your board design and checker colors too. The design is one of the best we have seen for a backgammon application. The length of your matches can be customized to (up to 15 points).

Some users may want to go beyond playing the computer and test themselves against their friends or other players. 2-player mode is supported in this application. The fun part is, one can use this app not only to kill time but also to learn new strategies and tricks.

We would not be doing this app justice without addressing some of the accusations that a couple of users have made about it. Considering that you have the option to view the next 100 rolls at any time, it’s hard to put any weight on these complaints. The game’s AI is so good that it does not need to cheat to beat you.

Overall, Backgammon NJ HD is one of the most good looking and strongest Backgammon apps around. If you are a beginner, there is a lot you can learn from this app. More advanced players won’t find this app easy to beat. A must have for every backgammon fan.

I love backgammon, I have played for over 30 years and I can play…
Backgammon NJ HD has 4 skill levels, easy, medium, hard and expert. As you play the different levels, the computer's luck increases as drastically as your bad luck! 9 times out of 10, it gets the dices it needs and you don't… It is just unbelievable and so frustrating and irritating that all this application does is to disgust you from backgammon. In fact, they're unfortunately all the same. The skill levels doesn't get the app to play better but it gives it more luck with the dices and obviously less luck to you…

No I agree Frank. I actually had a talk about this with the developer when it came out. He said you can see the rolls in advance … which you can. But I have to say, this is one challenging game regardless of how it gets those rolls 🙂

How can you set different levels with a game using dice? Answer; load the dice! I am not looking for a stupid game where you either can't win or are allowed to win. I am looking for one where the dice is random as it would be if playing a real game. Anything else is "Mickey Mouse".

This one is pretty good, but I think backgammon masters beats it with online. Take a look[youtube MfECD1LjZeM youtube]

I have been playing backgammon for decades. i often win, and I rarely get slaughtered. This game, however, repeatedly whips my ass. I understand the point about the next 100 rolls being predetermined, but that does not answer the following two questions: (1) does the computer know the next 100 rolls when it makes its move, and (2) are the 100 rolls randomly generated', or are they calculated to yield an advantage to the computer? Either or both of thes alternatives would change th game from being a combination of skill and luck to being just plain rigged.
