Using flashcards to learn and master new topics is pretty standard these days. Many students rely on it to pass their tests and learn hard topics. You don’t have to deal with paper flash cards though. Flashcards by Dictionary.com is a quality application that lets you create your own lists or choose from thousands of word lists available to learn and master new words.

Flashcards has a decent user-interface. You can choose to study with flashcards or quizzes. Just find your grade level or favorite topic, and the app does the rest. You can sync your online and mobile app progress and study offline when you need to. You are not only provided with definitions but also pronunciations for new words that you learn. Common Core content is available as a premium feature.

We are a big fan of Dictionary.com products. Unfortunately, we have been burned by them badly in the past. The apps work well for the most part. But custom lists get dropped and there is no way to recover them. So if you plan to use an app like this, do yourself a huge favor and back up your lists.
